What are Physical,
Occupational, and Speech
Therapies?
• Physical therapy focuses
on all physical aspects of
recovery. Treatment
emphasizes improving the
patient's strength,
mobility, and endurance.
Other benefits of physical
therapy include accelerating
the healing process and
relieving pain.
• Occupational therapy
focuses on increasing our
patient's overall
independent functioning.
Treatment is concentrated on
improving the function of
the upper body, specifically
the arms and hands.
Treatments may include the
design and use of assistive
and adaptive equipment.
• Speech therapy focuses on
improving the physical and
cognitive aspects of speech
and swallowing. Treatment is
concentrated on a selection
of specialized exercises to
assist the patient to regain
or compensate for inadequate
swallowing or verbal
communication skills.
Why does the clinic provide
all three services?
The therapists at the
Southwest Center for
Rehabilitation believe that
the quality of care is
improved with a team
approach. Very often, our
patient's rehabilitative
needs will require two or
all three services.
Therapy services are covered
by Medicare and several
major private insurance
companies. Please check with
your insurance company.
