With the Cardiovascular Institute of Mississippi, we made an investment in the future health of the communities we serve. We built Mississippi’s most technologically advanced Heart Hospital right here in McComb because this area consistently has reported one of the highest rates of cardiovascular disease in the country and one of the highest mortality rates from the disease. As if these grim statistics weren’t enough, further investigation revealed the underlying cause of this epidemic to be a medically underserved rural population. In fact, area residents were receiving cardiac care services at a rate less than half of the national average. This translated into many, many individuals dying without ever being diagnosed, much less treated. It was time to get serious–as a heart attack–about addressing the problem.

Today, the Cardiovascular Institute of Mississippi is a shining example of Southwest Health Systems’ deep-seated commitment to improving cardiovascular health throughout the region, and ultimately, saving lives. With facilities, technology and physicians second to none, we now offer a level of cardiac care once exclusively available in large urban centers. In turn, individuals who didn’t want to or simply couldn’t travel to see a cardiovascular specialist are now getting the medical attention they need right here at home. And, in many cases, not a day too soon.
