What are Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapies?
Physical therapy focuses on all physical aspects of recovery. Treatment emphasizes improving the patient's strength, mobility, and endurance. Other benefits of physical therapy include accelerating the healing process and relieving pain. Speech therapy focuses on improving the physical and cognitive aspects of speech and swallowing. Treatment is concentrated on a selection of specialized exercises to assist the patient to regain or compensate for inadequate swallowing or verbal communication skills. Why does the clinic provide all three services? The therapists at the Southwest Center for Rehabilitation believe that the quality of care is improved with a team approach. Very often, our patient's rehabilitative needs will require two or all three services. What types or conditions/illnesses are they used for?
