Proxsys Rx Provides Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center with New Technology to Improve Community Health

BIRMINGHAM, AL Proxsys Rx and Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center have created a strategic partnership that provides hospitals and medical centers in southwest Mississippi unprecedented access to technology-driven solutions to enhance the quality of patient care while reducing prescription drug costs. Proxsys Rx operates the Pharmacy at the Medical Center, anchoring a broad spectrum of services that improve patient health and drive value.

“We are thrilled to partner with Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center to introduce the region to new health care solutions that improve community health while reducing healthcare costs. By integrating outpatient pharmacies into the continuum of care, we are able to help the Medical Center provide patients with exceptional care while realizing long-term cost savings that go along with reducing readmission rates and improving other key health system strategic indicators,” said Proxsys Rx Chairman George B. Salem.

Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center is working to reduce readmissions and improve other key performance indicators through deploying Proxsys Rx technologies and systems. The hospital has also significantly reduced its prescription drug costs and passed the savings along to patients. In addition, Proxsys Rx is helping the Medical Center by managing programs that provide uncompensated care.

“The Proxsys Rx technology helps position Southwest Medical as a national leader in adopting technology-driven systems that tackle the challenge of reducing readmissions while boosting key performance indicators,” said Southwest Regional Medical Center CEO Norman M. Price. “These solutions serve our mission of providing excellence in health care and improving the standards of health care in Southwest Mississippi and Louisiana to best serve the needs of patients,” said Price, noting that the Proxsys Rx system helps reduce readmission rates and improve patient experience scores mandated by CMS and other payers.

Proxsys Rx, the nation’s first Integrated Outpatient Pharmacy Provider, IOPP™, capitalizes and operates outpatient pharmacies on health care campuses. Patients who are preparing to go home can have their prescriptions filled and receive bedside face-to-face counseling with a pharmacist via digital app. The counseling is just the first step in the Proxsys Rx Discharge Prescription Delivery Program, DRxD™, that includes disciplined follow-up from the Proxsys Rx pharmacist to drive medication adherence and compliance for the long-run.

Integrating the outpatient pharmacy in a framework focused on patient engagement provides hospitals new opportunities to satisfy up to seventy percent of Meaningful Use – Stage 2 guidelines. Hospitals must attest to Meaningful Use-Stage 2 if they are to receive Medicare incentives and avoid financial penalties. Proxsys Rx is the first company to integrate outpatient pharmacy services along with other important patient engagements along the continuum of care within the hospital or clinical environment.
